Calibration of ADAS systems
What exactly needs to be calibrated and when?
Recalibration of the optical camera for the lane departure warning system and the adaptive high beam assistant as well as the LiDAR for monitoring the traffic ahead (for optical distance and speed measurement) is essential after replacing the windshield.
Other ADAS systems:
- Depending on the frequency, radar is usually located in the lower area, often behind the bumper. Others are placed in the outer rear-view mirrors and in the rear bumper. Radar is not calibrated, but can be adjusted after a collision.
- Ultrasonic sensors serve as parking aids and are not calibrated.
- Infrared cameras are used to detect obstacles and do not need to be calibrated.
- UWB is relatively new and will not be available for interior vehicle monitoring until 2025.

Are Windshields Without a Brand Logo of Inferior Quality?
When it comes to replacing windshields, there are two main categories of replacement parts: OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts and aftermarket parts.
OEM parts are original parts produced by the vehicle manufacturer or an authorized supplier. These parts bear the vehicle manufacturer's brand logo and meet the manufacturer's strict quality standards and specifications. This means that they are identical to the parts originally installed in the vehicle in terms of fit, function, and durability.
Aftermarket parts, on the other hand, are sometimes manufactured by third-party suppliers and are often less expensive than OEM parts. These parts usually do not bear the vehicle manufacturer's brand logo and can vary in quality and fit. While some aftermarket parts are of high quality and meet OEM standards, there are also inferior products on the market. It is therefore important to pay attention to the reputation of the manufacturer and the reviews of other customers when choosing aftermarket parts.
For cross-manufacturer vehicle models with the same platform, such as the Peugeot 3008 and Citroën C4 or VW Touareg Porsche Cayenne, you will usually not find a brand logo on OEM parts.
